FAR SOUTH COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011
Some rough seas led to Day 1 of this years event being cancelled. As many a diver and organiser watched the Narooma bar on Saturday morning it became apparent that it was just not going to happen.
Day 2 saw the conditions had improved but still not great, the bar was still unpredictable so it was decided to move the competition to Bermagui, about 30 minutes drive south of Narooma. The swell was still up but most competitors fished the shorelines with a few boats heading out to Montague Island. The visiblity inshore was patchy but those whose who top scored spent most of their time here and searched out the clearer spots. As with any competition, time spent in the water equates to fish on the rig. The few boats who travelled down the coast found that past Three Brothers the visibility deteriorated.
The weather, Day 1 cancellation and moving Day 2 all led to a low number of competitors compared to other years with 32 attending. As always the Narooma Volunteer Rescue Association took care of us at the weigh in in return for our dontated fish to auction off and raise much needed funds for their great work. Those who competed had a good day and we hope to see them back next year.

A great competition was enjoyed by 53 competitors this year. Saturday had fine conditions with little wind or swell and a westerly came up on Sunday but not enough to have too much impact on the competitors. A great junior turn out this year made for a hotly contested junior champion position and 8 competitors rock hopped (shoredived). The rock hoppers had a good day on Sunday with a few kingies coming in.
We hope all competitors had a great week end and we hope to see you at Eden in June and back at Narooma next year.

2009 - Unfortunately this event was postponed in April and again later in the year due to poor conditions. This meant the competiition was deemed cancelled for the year. It doesn't happen very often that a major championship is cancelled but as our sport relies on weather and ocean conditions, sometimes it is unavoidable.
